Mike and I met at a local wine store. I used to go in by myself to these free wine tastings they had every Thursday and Friday. It had been some time since I had last attended a wine tasting there and one lonely Thursday afternoon, I decided to go once more. To my surprise, there was a new manager and the walls were decorated with some of the loveliest photographs I had ever seen. I finally drummed up the courage to ask the manager about the photographs. The manager quickly told me that the photographer was his good friend and neighbor, Miguel. He said Miguel would be coming in the next day (Friday) and he would be more than happy to introduce us. I was ecstatic to meet the person behind the beautiful photographs.
The next day I showed up excited to meet this person but to my disappointment, he never showed up. I approached the manager again and he said Miguel was unable to make it but he would show up next Thursday. I waited and went to the wine tasting once again the following Thursday. Again, Miguel failed to show up. Although I was ready to give up on ever meeting the artist behind the photos, something inside me urged me to go the following day.
Friday comes along and I show up to the wine tasting. When I least expected it, the manager of the wine store yells out, "Miguel!" I turn towards the door and to my amazement, this handsome young man walks in. I guess I had been expecting an older Mexican man with a pony tail (for some odd reason lol). It was love at first sight! :) Unfortunately, Miguel did not even know I existed.
As the night progressed, the manager failed to introduce us and I grew antsy. I decided to take matters into my own hands and despite my shyness and fear, I approached him.
I can still remember his shoes. His shoes caught my eye and I remember thinking that those were the strangest shoes I had ever seen on a man before. They were these brown, round toe leather tennis shoes that had a green thread outline on the toe box in the shape of a foot and toes. It still brings a smile to my face every time I see or think of the shoes. :D
We have been together now for a little over four years... the rest is history.
